ROCKLAND — Cheryl Ann York (née Douglas) passed away April 23, 2015, at home unexpectedly and peacefully in her sleep. She was a 56-year-old lifetime resident of the Rockport/Rockland area.

In recent years, Cheryl worked as a supervisor for the Break of Day Mental Health Group Inc. Prior to that she spent many years as a teacher at the Rockland Penquis Head Start program. In both places she made many friends and touched many lives.

Cheryl was most passionate about her children and grandchildren, as anyone who met her can attest to. Staying in contact with her family was of the utmost importance to Cheryl, and she made a point to try to talk with them every day. She also enjoyed container gardening, reading, spending time with her dog, Rocky, and going out with her friends for Ladies’ Night Out.

Cheryl is survived by her three sons and their families, Jeremy York and his fiancé, Christine Simmonds, Brian York and his wife, Amanda, and their children, Ethan, Bella and Aubrey, and her youngest son, Corey York. She is also survived by her brother, Timothy Douglas and his wife, Carmen, and their children and grandchildren. She was predeceased by her father, George Douglas; and her mother, Mary Torpacka and her second husband, Maurice Torpacka.

Services will be held Friday, May 1 at 1 p.m. at Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock St. in Rockland. Reception to follow at the residence of Jeremy York and Christine Simmonds.
