ROCKLAND — Charlotte E. Johnson, 89, died peacefully on March 15, 2017, at home, with her loving daughter at her side.

Born in Rockland on April 15, 1927, she was the daughter of Andrew Rosswell and Jennie Gladys Merrill Weymouth. She was educated locally, attending Rockland High School.

Following high school, Charlotte married Carl Johnson on Sept. 23, 1949, in Rockland. Together they bought their first home on Florence Street in Rockland, and lived there for over 50 years, until his passing in 2002.

A hard worker her entire life, Charlotte was employed as a stitcher with Van Baalens for 25 years. She finished her career after 12 years at Schoolhouse Togs, retiring in 1989.

Charlotte loved to dance, and in earlier years often attended local dances with her husband at various dance halls, including the Blue Goose in Northport.

She will be sadly missed by all who loved her.

Predeceased by her husband, Carl in 2002; a daughter, Linda S. Gilson; her siblings and their spouses, Evelyn and Elmer Merrifield, Elsie and Ralph Brackett, Mildred and Freddie Harjula, Viola and Carl Littlefield, Doris and Bernard Jackson Sr., Andrew Jr. and Christy Weymouth; and a son-in-law, Ed McCorrison; Charlotte is survived by her children, Donald Johnson and his wife, Vicki, of Winslow, Arnold Johnson and his wife, Jeanne, of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Carla McCorrison of Rockland; her good friend, Robert Watts Jr. of Thomaston; 10 grandchildren and their spouses, David and Teanna Gilson of Wasilla, Alaska, Robert and Marie Gilson of Thomaston, Doug and Kristi Gilson of Lincolnville, Andrew and Jessica Gilson of Skowhegan, Christopher and Julie Johnson of Upton, Mass., LoriAnn and Thomas Canavin of Chelsea, Heidi and Joel Neal of Rockland, Kevin and Amber Johnson, and Jessica Rawlins, all of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Michelle and Sam Hardy of Hope; 17 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.

Family and friends are invited to visit Saturday, March 18, from 10 to 11 a.m. at Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock St. in Rockland, where a celebration of her life will be held at 11 a.m. The Rev. Mark Adolphsen will officiate. Private interment at Rockville Cemetery will be held at a later date.
