WALDOBORO — Charles Frederick "Charlie" Young, 85, died Aug. 10, 2016, at Togus in Augusta. Charlie was born Nov. 11, 1930, in Waldoboro, to Donald Young and Lucy Shuman Young.

He grew up in Waldoboro and graduated from Waldoboro High School in the Class of 1950. After graduation he joined the Army and fought in the Korean War.

After returning from the service he came back to Waldoboro, where he farmed for the rest of his life. He also did some trucking of gravel, fish and clams. Charlie was also a former selectman of the Town of Waldoboro.

Charlie had a special interest in railroads, tractors and sawmills. Charlie was known for his great memory. He was a unique, one-of-a-find man who had lots of knowledge and much to talk about. He gave speeches on sawmills and boat building on the Medomak River. He rode often with his friend, Earl Reynolds, on trips to New York.

He was a member of the Wiscasset, Waterville and Farmington Railroad in Alna and a member of the Stone-Scott-Watson VFW Post #3095 in Friendship.

He was predeceased by his parents.

He is survived by his sister, Sarah Young of Waldoboro; and several cousins.

A service to celebrate Charlie's life will be held Monday, Aug. 15, at 2 p.m. at the Rural Cemetery on Washington Road in Waldoboro.
