LINCOLNVILLE — Charles Clarke Loper, 89, a resident of Lincolnville since 1991, died Feb. 26, 2015, at Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor after a brief illness. Born in Dayton, Ohio, on May 29, 1925, he was the son of Charles C. and Ruth (Clarke) Loper. During World War II, he served as a demolition specialist in the European Theatre with the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged in 1946.

In 1991, Charles moved from Woonsocket, R.I., to Lincolnville. He was a member of American Legion Post #30 in Camden and served as a selectman for the town of Lincolnville. An avid cyclist, Charles enjoyed many cycling trips throughout New England as well as hiking and canoeing.

Surviving are his five children, Charles Loper and his wife, Connie, of Craley, Pa., Richard Loper of Denver, Colo., Victoria Loper and Margaret Loper, both of Millbury, Mass., and James Loper of Wales, Mass.; two grandchildren, Michael Loper and his wife, Christine, of Webster, Mass., and Hannah Morgan of Philadelphia, Pa.; one great-grandchild, Michael Loper; and one sister, Barbara Syme of San Francisco, Calif.

Services will be private and held at the convenience of the family. If desired, memorial gifts may be made to the Nature Conservancy, 4245 N. Fairfax Drive, Arlington, VA 22203.
