Carol Louise (Taylor) Oxton, 73, passed away April 1, 2017, at Knox Nursing Home, after many years of declining health.

Carol was born July 16, 1944, in Camden, to Clifford and Charlotte (McIntyre) Taylor. She attended local schools and left school early; however, years later she returned to graduate, then attended a local college. She worked many jobs through the years as a bookkeeper for various businesses. She also volunteered as a court appointed special advocate, a position she found very rewarding.

In 1962, she married George "Skip" Oxton and they spent the next 47 years together, until his death in 2008.

Carol and Skip were always there if anyone ran into trouble and needed a helping hand. She had great empathy for everyone, especially for people who were having a "rough spot" in their life, and would do what she could to assist them. She was a gentle soul with a kind heart and a great sense of humor.

Carol was family oriented and enjoyed family gatherings, where she always voiced her opinion and enjoyed bantering with her mother and brother, and especially, having the last word. She cherished her grandchildren and her many nieces and nephews.

She loved animals and through the years had many, but her favorites were small dogs - the last of which was Sheree, who brought Carol much comfort and joy. She also enjoyed collecting dolls and had a great affinity for jewelry, which she often gave as gifts. In good weather, one could often see Carol tooling around on the back of the motorcycle with her husband.

Carol was predeceased by her parents; her husband, George "Skip" Oxton; and her daughter, Carol.

She is survived by her son, Wayne Oxton Sr. of Belfast; her daughters Roxie Whitney of Morrill and Diane Drake of Troy; her grandsons, Wayne Oxton Jr. of Vinalhaven and Dillon Oxton of South Thomaston; her brother, David Taylor of Warren; her sister, Susan White of Camden; her great-grandchildren, Marcus, Jackson and Payton; and several nieces and nephews.

Special thanks go to all the staff at Knox Center and particularly Carol's niece, Cathy Abbott, who was instrumental in the wonderful care she received. Thanks also goes to Beacon Hospice, which helped to watch over Carol these last few months. She will be greatly missed by all.
