Camden Snow Bowl to host second annual Trail Fest

Tue, 09/19/2017 - 12:15pm

CAMDEN — The Camden Snow Bowl will host the second annual Camden Snow Bowl Trail Fest on Friday and Saturday, September 29th & 30th. This event is presented by Baxter Outdoors, Trail Runners of Midcoast Maine, and Midcoast Maine New England Mountain Bike Association, along with many other collaborators.

The Camden Snow Bowl, rising 1,000 feet above sea-level will host Baxter Outdoors' 8th trail running and 2nd and final duathlon event in the New England Trail Series season on Saturday, September 30th as part of the now epic, second annual Camden Snow Bowl Trail Fest.

Racers can bike, run, or both, and team registrations are welcome. The 5K run climbs one side of Ragged Mountain, rewarding the runner with spectacular views from the top of the triple chair, before winding down the Red Line Trail to return to the lodge. The 10K bike will climb the same Kuller Trail, but diverge off onto the single-track of Ragged Mountain before dropping down the G5 Connector and looping around the fabulous Goose River Trails. There will also be a 3K run option for those wanting to experience trail running without the 1,000-foot climb. New for 2017, a discounted youth registration for both the 3k and 5k running events! This event will take place rain or shine, and is not to be missed!

Race registration begins at 8:30am at the Camden Snow Bowl, with a shotgun start for the 5K run at 10am. Racers can also pre-register at www.baxteroutdoors.com. This is a sponsored fundraiser event, so every mile biked will raise money for Midcoast Maine NEMBA thanks to Sidecountry Sports, and every mile run will raise money for Teens to Trails thanks to Maine Sport Outfitters.

Not a runner or a biker? Come for the Festival! Co-produced by the Trail Runners of Midcoast Maine and the Midcoast Maine New England Mountain Bike Association, the Fest will include post-race yoga, food vendors, live music, gear tents, information tables, guided bike trail tours - including a "Youth Explorer Series" reunion ride, bike demos, and more.

New this year, is a Friday night event! Join The Maine Outdoor Film Festival as they set up their outdoor theater (weather permitting), and enjoy Maine-made films with an outdoor recreation theme.

For camping accommodations race organizers are partnering this year with the Megunticook Campground by the Sea. The campground will be offering a 20% camping discount during the weekend of the event to all registered racers. Late Saturday afternoon, after festivities at the Snow Bowl wind down, the campground will be hosting a Harvest Fest complete with more music, food, games and fun. Located in Rockport just a few miles from the Snow Bowl, the campground offers spectacular views of Penobscot Bay and the Maine Coast.
