Camden’s Harbor Committee focuses on pollution, lobster gear

    CAMDEN — The Camden Harbor Committee will convene at 7:30 a.m. at the Camden Yacht Club, Aug. 1, and face a full agenda that includes everything from water pollution in the harbor to lobster gear in the mooring field.

    The committee last met July 11 and discussed the fact that more lobster traps are appearing in the town's mooring field.

    The agenda includes:

    Consideration of a Collen Bown Memorial Bench

    Curtis Island use

    Harbor pollution

    Unencapsulated polystyrene ordinance

    Review of the daysailer agreement.

    Minutes of the July 11 meeting follow:

    1. HARBORMASTER’SREPORT

    Harbormaster reported more lobster traps in mooring field than usual. He is checking with Marine Patrol on how to manage this issue. He will be stationing a Deputy Harbormaster for Saturday’s and Sunday’s to keep wake down in the outer channel.

     

    1. CURTIS ISLAND FLOAT

    Will put this item on the Capital Improvement plan.

     

    1. GROUPFOR HARBOR BREAKWATERIMPROVEMENTIDEAS

    Richard Stetson will submit a letter to Select Board concerning the recommendation for this item and will go to their meeting on the July 18th.

     

    1. CAMDEN CLASSICS CUP REGATTA WEEK

    Harbormaster is helping with this event and will be the announcer.

     

    1. HARBOR POLLUTION DISCUSSION

    The pollution problem was discussed. Suggestion to form a coalition in order to find who may be doing anything for this problem was made.

     

    1. REVIEWING DAYSAILER LICENSE AGREEMENT

    Tabled until August meeting.
