Camden-Rockport schools invite public to winter community read

Tue, 11/14/2017 - 6:15pm

The Camden Rockport Elementary School and Camden Rockport Middle School administrative district invites the community to join in its winter Community Book Read, Creating Innovators – The Making of Young People Who Will Change the World, by Tony Wagner. The community book read is a way for parents and other community members to engage with administrators and school board members in a deep discussion about education.

Creating Innovators explores how parents, teachers, and community members can help to develop the capacities of our youth to become ground breaking forward-thinkers. Wagner profiles talented young innovators and reveals important ways the adults in their lives nurtured their creativity, sparked their imaginations, and supported their learning, including failures, resulting in resilience and perseverance. He reveals an important pattern in the lives of successful young innovators – play, passion, and purpose.

The book read will culminate in a group discussion on Wednesday, January 10, 2018 (snow date January 11) from 6:30 – 8 p.m. in the Camden Rockport Middle School Library. Community members are invited to either actively participate in the conversation or simply attend and listen if preferred. You are encouraged to bring a friend and make a night of it. Childcare and snacks will be provided.
Copies of Creating Innovators are available to borrow at CRES and CRMS and at public libraries in both Camden and Rockport. There is also a wealth of information on this site creatinginnovators.com in case you want to participate but don't have time to read the book.
