    CAMDEN — Here is a list of events from Aug. 6 to 20  sponsored by the Camden Public Library. These include theater, films, art, history and book discussions.

    Thursday, August 6

    “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” by the Camden Shakespeare Festival, 6 p.m. in the Camden Amphitheatre. For tickets and complete schedule visit camdenshakespeare.org.

    Friday, August 7

    The “Gazebones,” a nine-member trombone ensemble from Massachusetts, will play an informal free recital in the Camden Amphitheater at 1:30 p.m.

    Free Walking Tours every Friday at 4 p.m., hosted by the Camden Public Library and the Camden Downtown Business Group. Reservations are encouraged; please call the library at 207-236-3440.

    Saturday, August 8

    Reception for Camden artist Larry Kinney, 2 p.m. at the Camden Public Library. Kinney’s abstract paintings will be on display in the Picker Room throughout August.

    Sunday, August 9

    Monday, August 10 

    “Winning the Fight Over Lyme Disease” presented by Paula Jackson Jones, 12 noon at the Camden Public Library, part of the Destination Wellness Midcoast Maine series. Jones is co-founder of Midcoast Lyme Disease Support and Education and will give an update on important Lyme disease legislation in Maine. Come learn the best ways to get help locally if you do have a bite or test positive for Lyme disease.

    “The Incredibles” (2004, Disney Pictures, PG, 115 min), 8 p.m., free showing outdoors in the Camden Amphitheatre for Monday Night Movies in the Park, sponsored by the Camden Public Library and Allen Insurance and Financial. Bring blankets or chairs for comfortable seating 

    Tuesday, August 11

    Leer y charlar Spanish language discussion group, 1 p.m. at the Camden Public Library, open to all who are fluent in Spanish.

    Tuesday Book Group will discuss Eowyn Ivey’s “Snow Child,” 1 p.m. at the Camden Public Library. Call Nina at 207-470-7473 for more information.

    The Camden Philosophical Society Reading Group will host a discussion of Wallace Stevens’ View of the Imagination, 4 p.m. at the Camden Public Library, introduced by Chris Augusta.

    “Joshua Chamberlain” presented by Dr. Thomas Desjardin, 7 p.m. at the Camden Public Library. Chamberlain, Maine’s favorite son, hero, and governor, is arguably the most well-known figure in Maine history. Historian Desjardin has written several books on Maine history and Joshua Chamberlain. Part of the “Maine and the Civil War” series of lectures and events at the library.

    Wednesday, August 12

    Alice Limoges in a free concert, 12 noon at the Camden Amphitheatre, hosted by Camden Parks and Recreation Department.

    Thursday, August 13

    “Hunger in Knox County” presented jointly by Area Interfaith Outreach (AIO) and the Camden Area Christian Food Pantry, 2 p.m. at the Camden Public Library. The program will include a showing of the powerful documentary “A Place at the Table.” Representatives of the sponsoring food pantries will discuss the rising local need for food, invite discussion of what is being done, and elicit ideas of how to stem this tide.

     Maine State Archivist Dave Cheever presents “Revenge, Redoubt, and Receipts,” three Maine men’s struggles to achieve their goals in the Civil War on the front line, behind the lines, and at home, based on the true stories of Rockland’s sharpshooters and Camden’s industry in support of the Civil War. 7 p.m. at the Camden Public Library, part of the Maine and the Civil War series of lectures and events.

    “Profound Wonder: The Marriage of Abraham and Mary Lincoln,” by Dr. Erin Bishop, 7 p.m. at the Camden Public Library, part of the Maine and the Civil War series of lectures and events.

    Thursday, August 20

    The Gawler Family in a free concert in the Amphitheatre, 7 p.m., co-sponsored by the Camden Public Library and Allen Insurance & Financial. Bring blankets or chairs for seating. In case of rain, the concert will be indoors in the Camden Public Library.
