PORTLAND — After a challenging day of variable winds and shifty conditions, the Camden Hills sailing team won the April 28 Portland Team Racing Regatta at SailMaine in Portland by defeating Cheverus, Yarmouth and Portland.

Team racing is three boats from one school racing at the same time against three boats from another school, which is called a flight. Each team races against the other team three times. The team that wins two out of three races wins the flight. Lots of tactical knowledge and racing rules are involved for teams to succeed. The best finishes win the race. So, every point counts, and the less points the better.

The Windjammers teams consisted of: Hugh Levitt (skipper) and Amelia McClellan (crew), Simon Morin (skipper) and Courtney King (crew), and Calvin James (skipper) and Thomas McClellan (crew).

The Apprenticeship will host the Rockland Team Racing Regatta from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Participating teams will include Boothbay, Mount Desert Island, Islesboro, Southern Maine, Islesboro, Rockland and Camden Hills. Spectators are welcomed and the regatta can be viewed from the docks, as well as launches that will run out to viewing floats.
