ROCKPORT – Camden Hills Regional High School’s Honor Society hosted its ninth nnual Veteran’s Day Breakfast in the Wave Cafeteria at the school, Tuesday, Nov. 11. A large buffet breakfast awaited the estimated 100 to 200 veterans who would eat and enjoy a morning of entertainment provided by students.

Sarah Cole, co-adviser for the National Honor Society, is in her first year of running the breakfast. She said breakfast began at 7:30 a.m. and by 8:30 a.m. they expected that the cafeteria would fill with veterans. The NHS funds the entire event.

“Dr. I actually started the breakfast and the Senior Citizens Ball,” said Five Town CSD board member Faith Vautour. “The National Honor Society took it over once he started it.”

Principal Ithomitis said that all the NHS students help.

“They give up their free day to come in and serve breakfast to the veterans,” he said. “We serve till 9 a.m. Last year we served 200 veterans. We honor each branch of the service and play taps. That’s an extremely emotional moment.”

Two diners were veterans Jerry St. Clair and a Forest Greenier. St. Clair served in the U.S. Navy as a Seebee. He served in 1966, 1967, 1968 and 1969, which included two tours of duty in Vietnam.

Greenier served as a medic in the U.S. Army from June of 1951 until January of 1954.
