On Thursday, December 14, the CHRHS Bands and Choirs will be performing in their annual Holiday Concert. The concert will be held at 7 p.m. in the Strom Auditorium. Groups to be featured include the Concert Band, Jazz Band, Chorale, Women's Choir and Chamber Singers.

The concert will open with the Chorale singing a Traditional South African Song "Tshotsholoza," followed by the classic Wilhousky "Carol of the Bells." The Choirs will be conducted by Kim Murphy and accompanied by Matt Mainster. Of special note will be the Chorale's performance of the poignant "Homeward Bound" arranged by Mack Wilberg and accompanied by both Matt Mainster and student, Myles Kelley on the piano. Additional selections include the Women's Choir rendition of the familiar tune "Welcome Christmas" (from the motion picture "Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas") and the Chamber Singers' performance of the traditional "Ding Dong Merrily on High."

During Intermission, the student-led vocal ensembles: Fortissima and Off Beats will regale the audience with a few seasonal selections in the Wave Cafe.

The second half of the program will feature the CHRHS Jazz Band and Concert Band conducted by Nancy Rowe. The Jazz Band will be performing several versions of popular holiday tunes as well as a Latin-jazz flavored piece entitled "Chili Today, Hot Tamale". Senior vocalist, Emma Hallundbaek will be featured for a jazzy rendition of "White Christmas." Other soloists include Conrad Crans, Will Karod, Trevor Iltis, Grace Iltis, Simon Fedarko, Ruben Feldman and Augustin Shobert.

The Concert Band will perform a medley of traditional carols entitled "Wonders of the Season" as well as other exciting works of band repertoire. Student soloists with this group include Trevor Iltis, Annabel Parker and Hannah Nolan.

The concert will culminate with the combined holiday medley, "A Vaughan Williams Christmas", featuring all bands and choirs.

The concert will be preceded by the Empty Bowl dinner in the Wave Café from 5 to 7 p.m. The snow date for both events is Monday, December 18. Admission to the concert is a suggested donation of canned goods for the local food pantry.
