ROCKPORT – The Camden Hills JV ice hockey squad had an outstanding season, just as the varsity did, providing a solid foundation for the future of the Windjammers hockey program.

The Windjammers played a 10 game season against other junior varsity teams going 5-4-1 on the season. Of the four losses, three of those contests were one goal losses. They played an additional four games against the co-operative Mid-Coast Ice Cats team that they share home ice with at the Mid-Coast Recreation Center.

The Windjammers got wins against Gorham, Waterville, John Bapst, Leavitt and Yarmouth. They three one goal losses came at the hands of John Bapst, Brewer and Maranacook. The Jammers also lost to a strong Cape Elizabeth team and had one come-from-behind tie against Old Town/Orono.

In the regular 10 game season the Windjammers outscored their opponents 32-23.

Offensively the Jammers’ were led by freshman Cam Christie (9 goals, 3 assists) and sophomore Will Davee (4 goals, 6 assists). Other scorers were, Liam Haning (goal, four assists), Caleb Stern (3 goals, 2 assists), Gunner Hilt (5 goals), Dan Lydon (2 goals, 3 assists), Thomas Griebel (2 goals), Adam Bifulco (goal), Connor Donovan (goal), Jack Uhll (2 goals, 3 assists) and Katherine Orne (3 goals, 3 assists).

“Freshman Liam Haining was a reliable playmaker and junior Caleb Stern was also a key offensive player.”said coach David August. “Junior Gunnar Hilt showed a scorer's touch up front. Freshman Colt Magri and junior Patrick Beacham were valuable role players up front during the season and made important contributions that did not necessarily show up in the points column.”

August continued, “Colt and Patrick showed some tenacious forechecking skills, and were not afraid to be the first into the corner to dig out the puck for their teammates. Last but not least, Freshman Will Nickerson was up to the task as well, playing his first organized hockey and holding his own, he improved greatly over the course of the season.”

The Jammer's were a strong defensive team, anchored by Lydon, Griebel and Isaac Bricker. Other players that contributed by splitting time between offense and defense during the season were Bifulco and Donovan.

“Juniors Jack Uhll and Katherine Orne were also big contributors on offense and defense.” said August. “Each split time during the season up front and at the blue line.”

Camden Hills relied heavily on their duo of Freshman goalies, Matt Czuchra and RJ Botley. The two split playing time equally. Although shots were not kept for most games, both had some games where they played outstanding and backboned the team said August.

The Jammers were also a disciplined team, averaging less than two penalties a game. Asa Peats and Karl Enroth assisted with the coaching duties.
