ROCKPORT — The Camden Hills Windjammers look to be ready for the season if its first two preseason games are any indication.

Camden Hills beat Cony 6-2 Saturday, Nov. 22 at the Ice Vault in Hallowell and played a two-period game against visiting Brewer at the Midcoast Recreation Center Wednesday, Nov. 26, that ended in a 2-2 tie.

The game was originally scheduled for 2:20 p.m., but the winter storm warning resulted in the game being moved to 9 a.m. However, the little storm was not going to discourage the players as both teams came ready to play.

The two teams appeared to be two fairly equal teams who both are fast, quick and hard hitting.

The varsity game was very well-played for just the second preseason match up.

Camden Hills got on the board first with a goal from James Annis at 10:45, with an assist from Jonah Cameron.

Brewer tied the score at 2:02 when Gabe Valley scored the first of his two goals, with an assist from Dylan Severance and Cameron Green.

In the second period, Windjammer freshman James Orne scored at 13:43, with an assist from Perrin Ganter.

Valley tied the score again with his second goal at 11:39 of the second period, with an assist from Caleb Eggert.

Jet Magri was in goal for the first period for the Windjammers and Zach Hand worked between the pipes for the second period.

Tyler Friel was in goal for Brewer.

No shots on goal or saves were recorded for goalies

Fans in attendance saw some early season quality hockey which gives hope that the Windjammers will be a solid team this season, despite only having four seniors on the team. They are loaded with juniors — 12 to be precise — and will be looking at the juniors to help lead the team to another productive season on the ice.

The Windjammer varsity team consists of seniors, Annis (Captain), Simon Lydon (Captain), Luke Noonan and Josiah Simko; juniors, Riley Andrews, Cameron, Nicholas Czuchra, Hand, Gunner Hilt, Magri, Chase Matteo, Katherine Orne, Matthew Prescott, Nick Tassoni and Jack Uhll;sophomores, Will Davee, Ganter and Kieran Lydon; and freshmen, Cam Christie, Thomas Griebel, Dan Lydon, and Orne. The team is coached by Karl Enroth, assisted by David August and Asa Peats.

In the junior varsity game, the Brewer Witches played hard and were too much for the young Windjammer junior varsity squad beating them 7-1 in a 25 minute period contest.

In the Cony game, back on Nov. 22, the Windjammers received goals from Simon Lydon (three) and Will Davee, Kieran Lydon and Jonah Cameron (one each). Assists came from Cameron and James Annis (two each), Cam Christie, Gunner Hilt, Luke Noonan and S. Lydon (one each).

Zach Hand was in goal for the Windjammers in the first half and had no goals scored on, while Jet Magri was in goal in the second half and had a pair of goals score against.

Camden Hills will participate in a preseason tournament Saturday, Nov. 29 in Bangor at the John Bapst Holiday Face-off Tournament. Camden Hills will play Houlton at 10:20 a.m., Brewer at 12:40 p.m., and Presque Isle at 6:30 p.m.

The Camden Hills varsity squad opens the season Saturday, Dec. 6 at home against Gorham at 6 p.m., with the junior varsity game to follow.
