ROCKPORT — The Camden Hills freshmen girls basketball team played host to Oceanside in an early afternoon game, but were not really very hospitable as they handed the Mariners a 62-47 loss to travel back home with.
The Jammers’ led 13-8 after the first quarter, but trailed 32-26 at the half. Camden outscored the Mariners 18-6 in the third quarter to take a 44-38 lead and added to it in the final stanza for the win.
Abby O’Donal had 17 points to lead the Windjammers; Mya Wiley 12; Maddie Maxwell 10; Nicole Brown nine; Gillian Lefleche eight; and Emily Long, Keshia Lane and Katie Heavey two each.
Camden was 8-of-24 (33 percent) from the foul line.
For Oceanside, Gabby Simmons led all scorers with 20 points; Amelia Campbell 10; Charlotte Leparulo six; Lauren Miller five; Julia Kurr four; and Jordan Brackett two.
Oceanside was 10-of-18 (56 percent) from the foul line and had one 3-pointer from Simmons.
Both of these young teams show a great deal of promise for the future of their programs at their respective schools, if these girls continue to work on their game.
