ROCKPORT — The Camden Hills boys soccer team hosted Skowhegan Tuesday, Sept. 12 in what would wind up being a huge milestone day for Ryan Hurley, the head coach of the Windjammers.

By the time the clock ran out Tuesday afternoon, the Windjammers had picked up an 8-0 victory over Skowhegan, thus giving Hurley his 100th victory as head coach of the Windjammers.

“The boys were excited to have our first home game and they put on a solid display of attacking soccer,” Hurley said. “We did a nice job sharing the ball and found the back of the net frequently.”

Ben Owre opened the scoring for the Windjammers with 35 minutes to play in the half.

Senior Will Nickerson would score the next two goals, Owre assisting on one of them the other unassisted. Senior Captain Marshall Merriam would tally the next Camden Hills goal, assisted by Owre again.

Then with eight minutes to play in the half, Merriam would get his name in the assist column when he dished a great ball to Zephyr Bombeke. Nickerson would secure a hat trick 32:44 into the second half assisted by Merriam.

Adam Thorndike would tally a goal at 29:11 of the second half assisted by Eric Andrews.

Gus Vietze would close the scoring at 10:35 off a nice feed from Quinn Brown.

Lucas Boetsch turned away two Skowhegan shots to secure the shutout. Skowhegan keeper Derek Mcclay would stop 18 of the Windjammers 43 shots on the afternoon.

Camden Hills had 13 corner kicks to Skowhegan's one.

"I've been really fortunate to have so many great players and teams and today was a special day,” Hurley said. “I was excited to share this milestone with Coach Varney and the boys and everyone who has supported us through our first [seven] seasons and into this our [eighth]."
