Camden Hills alum places 11th in college cross country meet

LEBANON, Pa. — The Gettysburg College women’s cross country team placed second among seven teams at the Lebanon Valley College Last Chance Run Fast Invitational on Friday at Union Canal Tunnel Park.

The Bullets, who rested several of their top runners in preparation for next week’s Centennial Conference Championships, placed all of their first-five finishers among the top-13 in the field of 72. Point Park University won with a score 25 and was followed by Gettysburg (51), Misericordia University (77), Lycoming College (95), King’s College (129), Lebanon Valley (139), and Wilkes University (201).

Leading Gettysburg was sophomore Colleen Campbell (Erie, Pa./Collegiate Academy), who covered the 6,000-meter course in 24:51 to finish seventh. She was followed closely by senior Gwen Porter (Narberth, Pa./Lower Merion), who took eighth in 25:06.

Also figuring into the team score were a trio of Bullets who placed 14 seconds apart: freshman Jacqueline Russell (Rockport, Maine/Camden Hills), who finished 11th in 25:13; sophomore Paige Wesolowski (Groveland, Mass./Pentucket Regional), who came in 12th in 25:24; and sophomore Elisabeth French (Westport, Conn./Staples), who took 13th in 25:27.

Finishing as displacers were junior Mary Casey (Hampton, N.H./Winnacunnet), who finished 18th in 25:54, and freshman Leah Hill (Media, Pa./Penncrest), who was 21st in 26:02.

Point Park’s Jenny Murtha won in 23:50.

Gettysburg competes at the Centennial Conference Championship on Oct. 29 at Haverford College.
