TENANTS HARBOR - The Jackson Memorial Library invites full- and part-time residents of Maine who create fine art to apply for exhibition of their works in the library. Preference is given to two-dimensional work that fits the library’s space, and to artists who have not exhibited at the library during the past year.

The library’s mission is to benefit the community through the aesthetic enjoyment, dialogue and insights that may result from viewing art. Solo exhibitions will be displayed in the library's Community Room and adjunct spaces. Joint exhibitions are permitted, but should be coordinated before application and information for all artists must be included in the application.

Qualifying artists 18 and over are eligible to apply. The artwork, weighing 20  pounds or less, must be suitable for display to a diverse audience, including children, enhance its setting and help create a sense of place. The artwork should not pose a threat to public safety. Artists must be present for delivery and opening reception.

To apply for exhibition, mail or deliver the items listed below to the Jackson Memorial Library Exhibition Coordinator, P.O. Box 231, Tenants Harbor, ME 04860. Questions? Call 372-8961. Applications can be sent via email to art@jacksonmemoriallibrary.org and should include the following: cover letter including a brief overview of what you intend to exhibit and your contact information; artist's statement; brief biography; images of at least five works (either hard copy or CD); list three exhibition date preferences (found below) in order; and a $5 non-refundable application fee in the form of a check made out to the Jackson Memorial Library.

The first available exhibition period in 2017 begins Feb. 1, with exhibitions scheduled periodically thereafter. Because exhibitions will be scheduled on a first-come-first-served basis, the library encourages artists to make contact as soon as possible to schedule an exhibition. Scheduling occurs only after all parts of the application are received, reviewed and accepted. There is a $20 contract fee to be paid at the time of contract signing, which is used toward promotions and hanging of exhibitions.

    Available exhibition dates in 2017 are: Exhibit 1: Feb. 1-March 31; Exhibit 2: April 1-May 31; Exhibit 3: June 1-July 3; Exhibit 4: July 18-Aug. 23; Exhibit 5: Aug. 24-Sept. 23; and Exhibit 6: Sept. 24-Nov. 23.

The JML Exhibition Coordinator will notify artists of show dates, delivery date and pick-up date. Artists are responsible for properly framed and ready-to-hang artwork and for delivery of their work to the library at the scheduled date. The library will hang the work. Artists are invited to use the facility to host their own opening reception. All artwork must remain on the wall for the duration of the scheduled exhibit and must be marked for sale. The JML will charge a 30 percent commission for all works sold during the exhibition.
