Brown to be inducted in inaugural Maine Basketball Hall of Fame class

BANGOR — Former Rockland District High School boys basketball head coach Bob Brown will be inducted into the inaugural class of the Maine Basketball Hall of Fame, Thursday, Aug. 21, at Bangor’s Cross Insurance Center. 

Brown coached at (in no order): Rockland District High School (now Oceanside), Williams High School (now Messalonskee), South Portland High School, Edward Little High School, Bonny Eagle High School, Cheverus High School, University of Southern Maine, Boston University and St. Anselms College, according to his bio on the hall’s website. 

The bio also notes that Brown coached for 50 years — 42 as a head coach — and won over 600 games. His high school teams won four Gold Balls and seven Regional Championships. His college teams made it to the NCAA tournament four times and the 1988-89 University of Southern Maine squad placed third in the national tournament. 

Brown has previously been inducted into the New England Basketball Hall of Fame, University of Southern Maine Hall of Fame, Maine Sports Hall of Fame, Midcoast Sports Hall of Fame and Maine Sports Legends Hall of Fame. 

He is also the father to Brett Brown, the current head coach of the NBA’s Philadelphia 76ers. 

A dinner and reception will begin at 4 p.m. and the ceremony will start at 6 p.m. Tickets are $40 each and can be purchased on the Hall of Fame’s website
