BROOKS — A Brooks man was issued a summons after an attempt to pass another vehicle resulted in a single-vehicle crash on Veterans Highway April 27.

Alexander Shyduroff, 34, was traveling southbound when he attempted to overtake another vehicle on the left, only to be forced off the roadway by a vehicle approaching in the northbound lane, according to the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office. The speed limit in the area of the crash is 50 mph.

Deputy David Wight, of the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office, responded to the scene of the crash around 6:45 a.m. after witnesses reported the crash to Waldo County Dispatch.

The 2000 Volkswagen exited the roadway on the northbound side when Shyduroff swerved to avoid the oncoming car, causing his vehicle to strike a ditch and become airborne. The vehicle then severed a CMP guy-wire, also splitting the pole it was attached to. The car then hit the ground just before a steep hill causing the vehicle to go airborne a second time. The VW came to rest after flipping onto the driver side and was towed from the scene.

The driver of the vehicle Shyduroff was attempting to pass and the driver of the oncoming vehicle both stopped and gave Deputy Wight witness statements. Neither of their vehicles were physically involved in the wreck.

Shyduroff was wearing his seatbelt and sustained possible injuries during the crash. He was issued a summons for operating left while passing so as to interfere with an approaching vehicle.
