WASHINGTON – Washington responders heeded warnings of slick driving conditions as they responded to one report of two single-vehicle accidents early Thursday, Jan. 11.

Just after 3:20 a.m., a third party reported both a commercial box truck rollover on the Augusta Road, just west of FishLips Takeout, as well as a single vehicle in the ditch nearby.

Union Ambulance and Washington Rescue assessed the driver of the box truck, which is registered to a trucking company out of Lewiston. That driver declined to go to the hospital.

The road will be closed again around 8 a.m. for the truck’s removal by two wreckers.

The male who’d driven off the road nearby on Route 17 left his car on foot, leaving law enforcement from the Knox County Sheriff’s Office to search his whereabouts.

In response to the requests by the responders regarding the slippery conditions, a road crew from the Department of Transportation was being roused.

As of 4:45 a.m., both vehicles were out of the roadway.
