Boothbay Wildcat eighth grade girls win Busline League championship

    The Boothbay Region Elementary School eighth grade girls basketball team capped its undefeated season by winning the Busline League large school championship, 54-25, over Oceanside Blue on Monday afternoon at BRES.

    Oceanside kept close for two quarters, trailing by only six, 22-16, with 6:45 to play in the third quarter, but Boothbay went on to outscore Oceanside 18 to 9 in the third quarter and 32 to 14 in the second half to win the championship.

    As seventh graders last year, this Boothbay team was also undefeated Busline League champions.

    “They were a bit nervous in the previous playoff games,” said Coach Jason Lorrain after the game. “But they were determined in this game.”

    Oceanside had difficulty defending Boothbay's fine passing and speed. Boothbay also held Oceanside to just one shot on several occasions, getting the rebounding edge throughout the game.

    Wildcat Faith Blethen led all scorers with 23 points. Teammates Ashley Abbott and Maggie Larson added 11 and 10 points respectively.

    K. Grover led Oceanside with 16 points.
