Big Brothers Big Sisters awarded grant for Midcoast school mentor programs

    CAMDEN — United Mid-Coast Charities awarded $8,000 to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Mid-Maine to support its youth mentoring programs in local Midcoast schools. The award was one of 58 grants, totaling $547,000, given to Knox and Waldo county nonprofit agencies. Agency officials accepted the funds during a recent awards ceremony in Rockport.

    “We are thrilled to receive this grant from UMCC. Our agency has been serving Midcoast Maine since 1978 and has had a long history of strengthening our community in partnership with United Mid-Coast Charities,” Alex Gaeth, CEO for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Mid-Maine, said in a news release.

    “This grant is so important and helps support bright futures for our School-Based mentoring programs at Hope, Appleton, Lincolnville, Camden-Rockport, Rockland, and Warren,” she said.

    Big Brothers Big Sisters serves 700 Maine youth annually in Androscoggin, Kennebec, Knox, Lincoln, Penobscot, Somerset and Waldo counties.
