CAMDEN — Bernice K. “Bea” Newbegin, 93, died peacefully on April 3, 2017, with her daughter at her side, at Sussman House in Rockport.

Born in Rockland on Nov. 5, 1923, she was the daughter of Jesse O. and Ethel Dodge Linscott. Educated locally, she was a 1942 graduate of Rockland High School.

Following high school, Bea married Richard C. Newbegin in Rockland on Oct. 23, 1944. Together they made their home in Rockland their entire married life. Bea spent most of her life as a homemaker, devoted to the needs of her family. Over the years she did hold a few jobs in local businesses, including New England Telephone Company, Crocketts Five and Ten, Woolworths and Economy's.

She was an accomplished gardener, keeping beautiful flower gardens around her home. She enjoyed bird watching and caring for animals both wild and domestic. Always crafty, she kept busy with embroidery work, and her daughter remembers she was an excellent cook. For many years, Bea and Dick loved to kick back and go dancing on Saturday nights. She was also a member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church.

Predeceased by her brothers, an infant, Jesse Jr. and Loy Linscott and his wife, Evelyn; and an aunt, Adelma Bowes; Bea is survived by her daughter, Brenda Genthner and her husband, Donald, of Rockland; her granddaughter, Desiree Genthner of Wiscasset; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A graveside service will be held Friday, May 12, at 2 p.m. at Achorn Cemetery, Rockland.

Arrangements are in the care of Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home.
