Belfast sweeps Sluggers youth baseball tournament

Winter ball gets these players ready for the baseball season.

BREWER – Two teams from Belfast, a U10 and U12 team have completed their play in the Sluggers Youth Baseball Winter League held at Sluggers with both teams bringing home a championship.

The winter league ran from Feb. 15 through March 29 with the championships being played Saturday, April 5.

The Belfast U10 baseball team picked up a 10-0 win over Bradford behind the pitching of Jason Bartlett who threw a no hitter for the win. Zepherin Leppanen paced Belfast at the plate with a grand slam.

The Belfast U12 team pulled out a hard fought 2-1 victory against Winterport in extra innings. Ryder Wagenknecht only gave up one hit in three innings on the mound. Luke Hamlin pitched five innings allowing just one hit as well. The Belfast team had two outs and runners on first and second,when Eamon Goscinski ripped a game winning triple in the eighth inning to give Belfast the win.
