BELFAST — The Belfast Police Department reported the following activity July 12-22. An arrest or summons does not imply guilt.

    July 11

Officer Eric Kelley responded to the scene of a single vehicle accident on Route 1 where an operator traveling southbound crossed the center lane before striking the bottom portion of a telephone pole on the northbound side of the route. The crash, which occurred just after 8 p.m., caused the top portion of the pole to drop, leaving live wires crossing both lanes of travel. Belfast Police rerouted traffic via Back Searsport Road while the damage was repaired, and the vehicle was towed from the scene. The operator, 21, of Rochester, N.H., reportedly may have fallen asleep behind the wheel, according to the police report. There were no injuries in the crash.
