Bay Chamber Music School music exploration class for kids

Sat, 04/11/2015 - 6:00pm

ROCKPORT — Bay Chamber Concerts and Music School is offering a fun, interactive music exploration class for kids ages six to nine, beginning April 29.

Music Exploration: Hum, Strum, Drum and Play allows children ages six to nine to explore the world of music by making music (playing and listening) in a group setting.

Children learn basic music concepts and skills using a variety of percussion instruments, recorder and ukulele.

Students also learn fun and age-appropriate ways to sing and express themselves. They'll sing, move, play, improvise (ensemble and solo work) and listen to a wide range of music.

Everyone's allowed to develop at their own pace and encouraged to reach toward their potential.

Instructor Jessica Day, an expert in music, teaching, and children's development, creates a fun, informal, social setting that spurs engagement and supports each child, according to a news release.

Day is a certified Music Together® teacher and earned a B.F.A. in fine arts from the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design and an M.F.A. in Education from Boston University.

The class starts Wednesday, April 29, from 3:45 to 4:45 p.m., and runs through June 17; cost is $80.
