FT. MYERS, Fla. — Barbara A. Knowlton, 94, former Rockland and Owls Head resident, died peacefully on Sept. 9, 2016, in Florida.

Born Jan. 6, 1922, in Liverpool, Nova Scotia, Canada, Barbara was the daughter of Ivan and Ann Cunningham. Barbara moved to the United States when she was 2 years old.

Barbara was married to Hugh Knowlton, owner and founder of Knowlton Moving Service. For many years they resided in Rockland and Owls Head before moving to Florida in 1972.

A devoted mother to her four children, she loved spending time with her family and going to the beach. She will be sadly missed by all who loved her.

Predeceased by her husband, Hugh; a son, Phillip Knowlton Sr.; and a daughter, Anita Knowlton Lindsey; Barbara is survived by her son, Milton Knowlton and his wife, Wanda, of Ft. Myers, Fla. and Union; a daughter, Sally Adams and her husband, Skip, of Ft. Myers, Fla.; 10 grandchildren, Rebekah Patterson and her husband, Mike, Netha Luce and her husband, Peter, Christine Knowlton Hall and her husband, Gary, Tammy Brennan and her husband, James, Elaine Linsey and her partner, John Emery, Rigger Lindsey and his wife, Virginia, Cindy Lindsey, Phillip “Chipper” Knowlton Jr. and his wife, Lynn, Chesley “Chuckie” Adams, and Stacy Thompson and her husband, Jim; 14 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held Thursday, Sept. 22, at 1 p.m. at Evergreen Cemetery in Owls Head.
