CAMDEN — Barbara Theresa Hagney, 87, of Camden, died Nov. 6, 2016, at Pen Bay Medical Center in Rockport. Born in Camden, N.J., on Nov. 3, 1929, she was the daughter of John and Mary (Bodner) Balan.

Barbara married Dennis John Hagney, who predeceased her on Dec. 20, 1999.

As a young woman, Barbara traveled to Japan, where she worked for the U.S. military.  While there, she climbed Mt. Fuji. Barbara was a member of the Doylestown Nature Club. Also, she was a self-taught gourmet cook and loved to cook for her family and friends.

In 1996, Barbara and Dennis moved to Camden, Maine, where she was an active communicant at Our Lady of Good Hope Catholic Church.  Barbara very much enjoyed being a member of the Women’s Club and her circle of friends. 

Surviving are her two sons, Dr. Timothy Hagney of Camden and James Hagney of Augusta; two sisters, Grace Mackey of North Carolina and Irene Burtis of New Jersey. She was predeceased by her husband; and her brother-in-law, Robert Mackey.

A Memorial Mass will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 16, at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Good Hope Catholic Church in Camden.
