ROCKPORT — It could have rained buckets more and still no one would have cared Saturday, May 6, at Aldermere Farm. The mud was thick, but the mostly everyone put their boots on and traipsed through the barn and paddocks, visiting the 11 new Belted Galloway calves born this spring, as well as chickens, sheep, an Angora rabbit, and other friends.

Aldermere Farm, which is a preserve of Maine Coast Heritage Trust, open its doors, gates and barnyard to the public during Calf Unveiling Day every year to introduce the newest members of Aldermere's Belted Galloway herd. It is also a chance to see Aldermere's 4-H club in action.

This year’s celebration drew visitors from around Maine, and beyond — Rockland, Portland, Boston and Michigan.

Local farms, agricultural programs, food vendors and nonprofits joined the celebration. This year's event featured 3 Bug Farm, Bittersweet Heritage Farm, Final-lee Acres, Merryspring Nature Center, One Black Sheep & Headacre Farm, P.A.W.S. Animal Adoption Center, Peopleplace Cooperative Preschool, Rosalie Joy's Bakery, Stone Fox Creamery, The Barber's Bunnies, U-Maine 4-H Centers Tanglewood and Blueberry Cove, Uproot Pie Co., White's Farm, and local children's book author, Liza Gardner Walsh.
