GRISWOLD, Conn. — Arthur Raymond Dority Jr. passed away at home March 8, 2013, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born Jan. 22, 1956, he was the son of Dorothea Dority of Searsmont.

Art was a truck driver for many years, owning and operating his own truck, and traveling across the country with his wife, Pat. In later years, he was a well-respected general contractor, paying particular attention to detail in his work. A hard worker all of his life, Art kept busy up to his final days doing projects around the home. His last project was refinishing a chair that belonged to his great-grandfather that Art proudly showed to anyone who came to visit.

Art's grandchildren were his pride and joy and he enjoyed teaching them to work with their hands by building arts and crafts out of wood. Junior, as he was affectionately called by his siblings, will always be remembered as a wonderful father, son, brother and uncle, a renowned storyteller and kind-hearted soul who would give you the shirt off his back if you needed it.

Surviving is his wife of 36 years, Patricia Fox Dority; his mother, Dorothea Dority of Searsmont; two sons, Raymond Dority and wife, Christine, of Maricopa, Ariz., and Evan Dority of Griswold, Conn.; three grandchildren, Caden, Ali, and Joshua, all of Arizona; five siblings, Rose Davis of Searsmont, Chris Bowen and her husband, Bob, of Weddington, N.C., Gloria Blakeley and her husband, Brian, of Mooresville, N.C., Jean Blain and her husband, Paul, of Manchester, Conn., and Sherry Dority of Moosup, Conn.; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father, Arthur R. Dority Sr., in 1976; and his brother-in-law, Joseph Davis of Lincolnville, who died in 2001.

In keeping with his wishes, there will be no public services. If desired, memorial gifts may be made to the American Cancer Society.
