APPLETON — Sleeves were rolled up. Hands were washed. Hair was pulled back. And smiles and enthusiasm abounded Saturday, Dec. 13 as the girls of Girl Scouts of Maine Troop 2002 busily made 25 pies of the chocolate and pumpkin variety to be included in Burkettville Grange Hall's annual holiday basket delivery program.

In the spirit of the season, the Troop has made a commitment to spread some cheer to those that can use it most at this time of year.

In addition to the Promise Pie Project, the girls have been collecting hats and mittens to later deliver to those in need. Collection boxes can be found at Appleton Town Office, Appleton Village School, Burkettville General Store, Common Market, and Mildred Stevens Memorial Library until Tuesday, Dec. 23.

Appleton Village School, Beth's Farm Market, Common Market, Deer Foot Farm, Fraternity Village Store, Four Corner Variety, Hannaford, and Shaw's all made contributions to the Promise Pie Project.

Girl Scouts of Maine provides services and support more than 16,000 girl and adult members statewide.  The program builds courage, confidence, and character.
