THOMASTON — The dreary weather did not keep the community away from coming to Applebee’s in Thomaston on Aug. 16 for the sixth annual “Tip-A-Cop” event. The atmosphere inside the restaurant was upbeat and festive while patrons cheered on the “celebrity waiters” and enjoyed a good meal, all while supporting the athletes and Special Olympics Maine.

The final donation for “Tip-a-Cop” that was recently received, raised the amount collected to $3,150, which set a fundraising record in the state, according to Troy Peasley, Rockland Police Traffic Officer and coordinator of the event.

Peasley said it took a lot of hard work from the volunteers to achieve the goal. He extended his appreciation to the entire crew at Applebee’s including the management, wait staff, cooks, bartenders, hostesses and runners who all worked as a close team with the “celebrity waiters.”

The raffle for the autographed jersey from David Ortiz, the designated hitter and first baseman for the Boston Red Sox, and the football from Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, will be held on September 10 since the drawing is being shared between the Thomaston and Brunswick events.
