Anne Beattie featured at Jackson Memorial Library Summer Literary series on Tuesday, July 18

Jackson Memorial Library is pleased to announce that the second author in the 10th Summer Literary Series will be award-winning novelist and short story writer Ann Beattie. A part-time resident of Maine, Beattie has received numerous awards through the years, including The Best American Short Stories of the Century, and her work is included in Jennifer Egan's The Best American Short Stories 2014. Beattie is a member of the American Academy and Institute of Arts and Letters and was awarded the PEN/Malamud Award for excellence in the short story form. Her work has been compared to that of literary greats including Alice Adams, J.D. Salinger, John Cheever, and John Updike. She has taught at Harvard University and the University of Connecticut.

Presently, Beattie is a professor at the University of Virginia, where she is the Edgar Allan Poe Chair of the Department of English and Creative Writing. In 2005 she was selected as winner of the Rea Award for the Short Story, in recognition of her outstanding achievement in that genre. She will be presenting her latest work, The Accomplished Guest.

Beattie's appearance at the St. George Literary Series will take place at the Ocean View Grange, 435 Port Clyde Rd. in Martinsville on Tuesday, July 18. It will be preceded with a reception at 5:30.
