OWLS HEAD — Anne Hopkins Adams, 84, passed away peacefully at her home March 20, 2014. Anne was preceded in death by her parents, Reynolds and Anne Hopkins, and by her loving husband, William Bradford "Bill" Adams.

Anne is survived by her children, Brad Adams (Eleanor), Abigail Adams and Sam Adams (Becky); her grandchildren, Kate, Ford (Kady), Sarah, Eliza, Haley and Sam; and two great-grandchildren, Wells and Hattie.

Born Sept. 4, 1929, in Lancaster, Pa., Anne attended Lancaster Country Day School and Western College before she moved to the Boston area, where she met Bill Adams. The two married Sept. 13, 1952, and started a family in Longmeadow, Mass. They then moved to Mystic, Conn., where Bill started his career at IBM. From Connecticut the family relocated to the Washington, D.C., area before eventually settling in Hingham, Mass.

As her children matured she started her first of many volunteer positions at the Volunteer Action Center in Boston, Mass. Following Bill's retirement, they made Owls Head their permanent home. Anne and Bill were dedicated to one another, their family and their community. They were well known for their elegant dancing, sense of humor and warm, welcoming nature. They both enjoyed their life in Maine from the onset, working to maintain the values and traditions held by generations here at their Owls Head home.

Anne was a very active member of the community. For many years she managed the Pen Bay Hospital gift shop. She was also a member of the Farnsworth Museum Women's Guild, and the Owls Head Garden club. She sat on the board of directors for Pen Bay Hospital (now Pen Bay Medical Center), Knox County Health Clinic and Home Counselors Inc.

Above all was her love for the beauty of Maine, the Owls Head community, and her friends and family. For many Anne became a role model of strength, generosity, elegance and individuality. She never hesitated to correct one’s English grammar and share her sense of humor. She affected many with her wisdom, positive attitude and forward vision. Anne leaves behind many dear friends who have enriched both her life and the lives of her family. She will be greatly missed by all.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 29, at 11 a.m. at the Episcopal Church of St. John Baptist, 200 Main St. in Thomaston.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Knox County Health Clinic, 22 White St., Rockland, ME 04841.
