TENANTS HARBOR — Ann Elizabeth Scott, formerly of Silver Spring, Md., died Feb. 14, 2017, after an extended illness. She was 81.

Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on Feb. 19, 1935, she was the daughter of Theodore R. and Elizabeth Nichols Scott. She grew up in Northport, N.Y., graduating as valedictorian of the class of 1953 at Northport High School. She went on to receive a Bachelor of Arts in education and government studies from Barnard College, and a Master of Arts in Middle Eastern studies and history from Harvard University.

Over her lifetime, Ann Elizabeth worked for a variety of organizations relating to education and international programs. They included: The American Association of University Women, Gallaudet University and Georgetown Day School, The National Council for the Social Studies, Meridian House International. She also was the director of international programs at Goodwill International, which allowed her to travel extensively to areas such as Russia, Central Asia, Europe, Australia and the Far East.

Ann Elizabeth spent most of her adult life living in the Washington, D.C., area. In 2003 she relocated to Maine to be close to her family.

Predeceased by a niece, Stephanie Scott; Ann Elizabeth is survived by her brother, Robert "Steve" Scott of Tenants Harbor; her nephews, Theodore Scott and his wife, Vicki, of West Rockport, Stephen R. Scott and his wife, Nancy, of Tenants Harbor, and Brian Scott and his wife, Kim, of Tenants Harbor; and her great nieces and nephews, Stephen, Tynesha, Jessica, Morgan, Ariana, Victoria, Julia, Hannah and Robert.

A graveside service will be announced in the spring.
