THOMASTON — Andrew "Swede" Anderson, of Thomaston, died Aug. 21, 2015. He was born to the late Algot and Amelia Anderson on Feb. 2, 1927, in Tenants Harbor.

He married his late wife of 62 years, Eunice Mae Carey Anderson, on Feb. 27, 1951, and they lived together in Massachusetts, before relocating to Maine.

Swede was a U.S. Navy veteran who served in World War II on both the U.S.S. Rochester and the U.S.S. Neal Scott, and in July 2005 the Naval Historical Center Navy Yard in Washington, D.C., presented a plank to him recognizing him for being the last sail maker. He trained at Massachusetts Institute of Technology as a physicist, and later became a safety engineer for Raytheon and MIT. When he retired he became the beloved bus driver for Maine School Administrative District 50 for those who lived on the peninsula and was favorably called "Andy" by the students. Swede was passionate about his Swedish heritage and spoke the language fondly. He loved to tell stories and share his love of mathematics and the sciences.

Swede was a member of the Coastal Clippers Square Dance Club, and was a wonderful round and ballroom dancer with his late wife, Eunice. He loved to travel, took five cruises and spent much time visiting the United Kingdom and Costa Rica.

Swede is survived by his two children, Kathryn Anderson-Purinton and Erik Anderson, both of St. George; their spouses, Rick Purinton and Tammy Anderson; one grandchild, Sharity Morris; and two great-grandchildren, Arianna Morris and Alphonse Morris-Lombardo.

We in the family can only say, Swede, there are no goodbyes for us. Wherever you are, you will always be in our hearts. Jag älskar dig.

A gathering will not be held per Swede's wishes.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to Meals-On-Wheels, Methodist Conference Home, 46 Summer Street, Rockland, ME 04841.
