ROCKPORT – The Penobscot Bay Regional Chamber of Commerce held its monthly Business After Hours at Michael Good Gallery, at 325 Commercial Street in Rockport on March 21. Avi Good, general manager of the gallery, said the gallery last hosted an after-hours event almost 20 years ago. It was a little déjà vu, but festive, fantastic and fun, she said.

Michael Good Gallery has been in business for 19 years. Good, who is Michael’s daughter, said they didn’t start with the idea of a gallery, but more of a showroom and it just evolved from there.

“There was never a grand plan,” she said. “Hindsight, you look back and say we started with this vendor and added that vender, etc, etc. I always felt like it was this zig zaggy, crazy journey to get where we are.”

Coming up in August, Michael Good will host its 19th Summer Celebration.

“Besides the summer celebration this year we are celebrating 50 years of Michael Good as a jeweler,” she said. “It’s his 50th year of having a jeweler’s career. This August, we’ll have a fantastic retrospective show.”

Good said you will see pieces that span 50 years.

“We also just had a book published this year,” she said. “And it shows you that overview of his life and work.”

Michael Good will be 75 this year and leaves the area for the winter, but Avi said he was expected to return home next week.

“He will never retire,” Avi said. “He loves his work and his passion and you get those kind of stars and we get the blessing to support that.”

Avi Good graduated from college in 1994 with a degree in music performance. She came home and asked her parents for a job.

“I figured I would be here for a couple of months until I figured out what I wanted to do,” she said. “Now here it is 24 years later and I’m still here.”

Michael Good has been in its current location since 1984.

Tom Peaco, executive director of the chamber, took the occasion to promote the chamber’s 90’s Rewind party at 16 Bay View this Saturday. The band Living Room Circus will provide the music from the 90s to dance the night away.

And next month is the chamber’s business expo at the Samoset Resort from 2 to 7 p.m. That will be the chamber’s Business After Hours for April.
