CAMDEN — Alan Milton Travers, 62, of Camden, died March 16, 2013, at his home. Born in New Bedford, Mass., May 18, 1950, he was the son of Chester and Betty (Raymond) Travers. Alan was a 1968 graduate of Dartmouth High School and in 1973, graduated from University of Massachusetts at Amherst.

In 1975, he moved to Camden, where he worked as a carpenter and later operated his own automobile repair shop for many years from his home. He was known as the "go-to mechanic" in Camden.

Alan's favorite memory was fishing with his mother, father and other family members at Barney's Joy in Dartmouth, Mass. As a child, Alan loved attending Ted Williams Baseball Camp during the summer months. His real love was playing football at the Dartmouth High School football stadium.

He was an avid gardener and took great pride and loving care of his black walnut tree. Alan enjoyed spending time around Camden harbor as he felt fulfilled to be near the ocean.

He was predeceased by his father, Chester Travers. Surviving is his mother, Betty Travers of Camden; his son, Nathan Travers and his wife, Sarah, and their daughter, Ella ,all of Scarborough; two brothers, Joey Travers of Michigan and David Travers of Massachusetts; three aunts, Lois Hunter of Connecticutt, Eunice Raymond and Phyllis Raymond, both of Massachusetts; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Alan leaves many close friends in the area and several very close friends, including Ray Williamson, Ann Pixley, Keryn Annis and Shawn Weed.

Family and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of his Life Saturday, March 23, 2013, from 1 to 3 p.m. at Rockport Masonic Center, 361 Main St. in Rockport.
