PRACTICAL SKILLS OF ACTING

Acting classes with Jennifer Hill this fall at Belfast Adult Education

BELFAST — Acting classes with Jennifer Hill at Belfast Adult Education start again on September 14 from 6 to 8 p.m. through the fall semester.

Students can expect to learn practical skills of acting and performing on the stage before an audience. The culmination of the semester’s work will be a scene night where students will perform before the community to practice their freshly honed skills.

Beginners are encouraged to sign up, as well as veterans of the stage. This will be a practical class where performers will be given room to expand their range of sound and movement without the concomitant demands of a major theatrical production.

The class will take time to explore Alexander techniques, Linklater breathing and sound pathways, improvisation on scenes and theater games that explore the human instrument for acting. Participants should wear comfortable clothing and be prepared to approach the craft as Sandy Meisner says, “behaving truthfully under imaginary circumstances.”

Teacher Jennifer Hill studied acting in New York City with master teachers Richard Edelman, Kristin Linklater, and many other coaches. Locally, she taught acting at the National Theatre for the Handicapped in Belfast, directed the musical “Oliver!” for the Abnaki Girl Scouts, and has written theater reviews for the Republican Journal.
