Warm Beans and Casseroles at John Street United Methodist Church October 7

Event has passed

We’ve had wonderful mild weather through September, but now comes October with crisper air.  Time to be warmed by hot food instead of cold.  Diners went for he crisp and chilled salads so popular in the past several months, but now are likely to dig into the hot dishes when the John Street United Methodist Church, 98 John Street, Camden, hosts its “first Saturday of the month” public supper at 5:30, October 6.

Servers place a variety of foods on the long, family-style tables, and the diners pass them along.  If they want a specific dish not on their table, the server will scout other tables and deliver it.  The staple of the menu is home-baked beans and cole slaw.  Served alongside are a variety salads, including tomato, garden, beet, spinach, potato, multi-bean, Asian, and fluffy jelled fruit bowls.  Consistently popular home-baked pies include mincemeat, pumpkin, apple, lemon, chocolate, cherry and rhubarb.

Guests are encouraged to come before 5:30 to assure seating.  If a group of people wish to reserve space, a member of the group may come early and pay for the group, who may arrive nearer serving time.  All reserved seating will be assigned one specific table.

The meal costs $9 for adults and $5 for children under age 13.  A portion of proceeds from the suppers is donated to the Christian Area Food Pantry in Camden, serving area towns.
