Veterans' Mobile Van Visiting URock on October 30

Mon, 10/20/2014 - 2:15pm

On Thursday, October 30, from 10AM to 1:30PM, the Veterans' Affairs Mobile Information Van will be parked at University College at Rockland on Rte 1 at the Breakwater Building. This van travels around the state to assist veterans "get the information and the services they deserve".

Active duty military, veterans and their families are invited to visit the Mobile Vet Center at the Breakwater Building and to explore its access to veteran resources. Guests may come with their specific questions, or just to visit and see how the VA staff and Mobile Van work to serve members of the military across the state.

According to URock Director, Deborah Meehan, "We often have people waiting in the parking lot when the van pulls into Rockland. There is not much access to veteran's information and to direct services in the mid-coast." Meehan added that it's always exciting to see people get answers to important questions and access to some essential services.

UMA Veterans Services staff will also include Amy Line, UMA Coordinator of the Military Achievement Project. Line is a Navy veteran, UMA alumna and adjunct faculty member whose husband currently serves in the United States Navy. Line says, “We sincerely appreciate the service and sacrifices our veterans have made to our nation. UMA has been nationally recognized as a veteran-friendly campus and has a long history of helping veterans transition into higher education.”

According to URock Director, Deborah Meehan, last year many area veterans stopped by just to say hello to staff and to support the traveling services. She added, "People shared stories about their years of service and various tours of duty." She added, “In addition, we were able to direct some university students who are veterans to important services for which they are eligible. It was a productive visit.”
