Information technology has become an integral part of our society. As new technologies become more critical to the success of every organization, demand for people with the skills to support or manage computer-based information systems will continue to grow. University College at Rockland is pleased to offer a variety of courses and programs from the University of Maine System campuses that provide high-quality, online instruction in the field of computer and information technology.

The University of Maine System offers courses and programs in Computer Information Systems, Digital Curation, Information and Library Services, and Information Security through University College at Rockland. Each degree and certificate program provides a well-rounded curriculum with a practical, hands-on emphasis, a combination that allows graduates to make a powerful contribution to any organization.

In addition to courses on interactive television and online, URock will offer two courses in Computer Information Systems face-to-face this fall term. On Mondays at 4:00PM at URock, faculty member Mark Goodridge will teach CIS 220, Information Technology Hardware and Systems Software. This course provides in-depth coverage of computer, network and operating systems. The class will build a computer from scratch including installation of the operating system.

Goodridge will also teach CIS 240, Networking Concepts, on Thursdays at 4:00PM at URock. This course provides an introduction to telecommunication and networking. Some of the topics include public and local networks, data security and network evolution and architecture.

"These programs give students the skills and flexibility to compete for the jobs that are in demand now,” said Deborah Meehan, Director of University College at Rockland. “As one of the fastest growing fields, the technology industry offers high job prospects and well-paying occupations.”
