University College at Rockland Hosts Series of Career Development Workshops

Thu, 02/23/2017 - 5:00am

During March and April University College at Rockland will be hosting a series of free Career Development Workshops.  In a time of competitive job hunting, these workshops are intended to support university students and community members with improved job search skills.

On Thursday, March 9th from 1 – 2:00PM, “Resumes and Cover Letters 101” will be presented.  This workshop will cover the nuts and bolts of creating these documents and ways to make them stand out.

On Tuesday, March 21 from 1:00 – 2:00PM, the workshop will focus on the professional networking tool, LinkedIn.  Data shows that 86% of employers are now using LinkedIn as a recruitment tool. It is also a good resource to research jobs, meet recruiters and find professional contacts.  The workshop will offer tips on how to create an effective profile and how to take advantage of all the features of LinkedIn to improve your job search.

On Monday, April 10, from 10 – 11:30AM, the workshop will focus on how interested college students may earn credit for experiences they have had outside the traditional classroom.  Options available at the university to earn “credit for prior learning” including credit by examination and portfolio assessment will be discussed.

To register for any of these free workshops, please contact University College at Rockland at 596-6906.
