Why Our Mitochondria Might Play the Greatest Role in Our Health

Event has passed

On Tuesday, March 31 at 6:30pm in the Belfast Free Library at 106 High Street, the Library and Belfast Co-op are hosting a free presentation with nutritionist John Bagnulo.

Mitochondria act as the power plants of our cells converting what we eat into energy.  According to nutritionist John Bagnulo, mitochondrial disorders are becoming increasingly recognized as responsible for a range of conditions which rob us of our ability to think clearly, function better muscularly, and even stay upright!  "When they begin to burn out or get leaky, our cells can't keep up with routine maintenance and start to fall apart.  In addition to aging, mitochondrial damage can be a result of eating too much fructose and polyunsaturated fats, not eating enough antioxidant-rich vegetables and organ meats, along with other factors such as medications and environmental exposures."

Learn which foods burn the cleanest in our mitochondria and what you can do to improve your mitochondrial and overall health.  Everyone is sure to learn useful information and specific attention will be paid to neurodegenerative diseases such as MS and Parkinson's, brain tumors, and to "old-muscle syndrome," which is an inability to recover from exercise, even at moderate intensities.

John Bagnulo MPH, PhD holds a doctorate in Nutrition and Food Science, is a faculty member of Kripalu Healthy Living Programs and has a private practice at 39 Main Street in Belfast.  For more information about his practice, visit:   johnbagnulo.com.
