"The Maine Conscious Consumer" author presentation

Event has passed

On Tuesday, May 3 at 6:30 pm in the Abbott Room of the Belfast Free Library, there will be a free presentation with Samantha Ricker, author of "The Maine Conscious Consumer: Your Guide to Sustainable Maine Living", who will lead a discussion on the benefits of buying local to our economy, community and environment. She will highlight Maine Buy Local movements and the accessibility of local foods.

Ricker's book provides guidance on how to carefully purchase and use foods and other consumables in an increasingly complex world. Her book examines how "buying local" and shifting our consumer habits away from supporting mega-retailers and a global marketplace and toward small businesses and our local marketplace can boost our own economy while helping to slow global climate change.

Author Samatha Ricker has assisted the Bath Main Street group and consults with farmers' markets, land trusts and other organizations working toward greater sustainability. Currently Development Director at the Patten Free Library in Bath, she earned a Master's Degree in Sustainable Business and Communities from Goddard College in Vermont.
