Today is the Day! Shop Once, Support Many

In the spirit of the holidays, local retailers will support local nonprofit agencies by participating in a special Day of Giving on Saturday, Dec. 3.

On that day, businesses in the Rockland and Camden area will showcase the work of United Mid-Coast Charities (UMCC) by contributing a portion of their sales to UMCC’s grant fund.

“This is a wonderful opportunity for people to shop once and support many,” said UMCC President John Viehman. “A portion of every purchase will be put toward the grants that UMCC awards each year to nonprofit agencies in Knox and Waldo Counties. We really appreciate the willingness of local businesses to share so generously this holiday season.”

“We couldn’t be more pleased,” added Sierra Dietz, Board President of Rockland Main Street, Inc., who proposed the Day of Giving to UMCC. “This was an initiative we participated in several years ago, and I felt it was time to bring it back. There is so much need in our community, and giving to UMCC is a great way to help a large number of organizations. It's nice to come together as merchants and encourage customers to shop locally and support the many small businesses in the community who do so much to give back.”

Matt Brown, owner of Manny’s and Karyl’s in Camden, is one of many other business people looking forward to the Day of Giving: “We are thrilled to be part of this. Manny’s and Karyl’s will give a portion of every sale to UMCC. We will also have other fun ways for all our customers to contribute on the day. "

Shoppers will see signs at the entrances of participating stores, which will also be listed online at  www.unitedmidcoastcharities.org

UMCC awarded $547,000 to 58 organizations in Knox and Waldo counties this year and is now raising funds for next year’s grants. Every purchase at participating stores on December 3 will contribute to that effort.
