We wish to thank the Select Board for their courage, clear thinking, and wise decision-making regarding the proposed rezoning of Fox Hill. As we all know, this process has been contentious, in part because the technical issues were complex, and also because so many people had strong feelings about the outcome.

We commend the Selectmen for studying legal documents, reading correspondence, and listening to the myriad voices and opinions on all sides of the debate. We commend their open-minded appraisal of all the issues and, finally, their vote to oppose the request for spot zoning one property. In so doing, our elected officials have preserved the integrity of our neighborhoods. Thank you.

We also wish to thank the hundreds of Camden citizens who fought for what is so special about this community by contacting elected officials, writing letters to local newspapers, and attending the many meetings to stand up and make their voices heard. This was the democratic process at work; we are proud to be part of a community that will fight to preserve what makes it so special for everyone.  To all of you, thank you.

In closing, we acknowledge this has been stressful on property owners, neighbors, elected officials, and residents. We look forward to reuniting and celebrating the gifts of this beautiful coastal community we all share. And we are ready to do our part in updating the comprehensive plan to preserve Camden’s history and beauty while also ensuring its economic vitality. We believe these are compatible and achievable goals.

Sincerely,

Citizens of Camden for Responsible Zoning
