Steve Crane of Camden has been named president of United Mid-Coast Charities, the Camden-based non-profit that supports service organizations throughout Knox and Waldo counties.

By a unanimous vote of the organization’s board of directors, Crane will replace Russell “Rusty” Brace, who is retiring after 17 years in the position.

The announcement coincided with UMCC’s Annual Meeting, held Aug. 20 at the First Congregational Church in Camden.

In making the announcement for UMCC, Vice President Carol Robbins said, "Every day at the helm, Rusty set a strong example for our board and for our community, in both words and deeds, and the organization is on extremely solid ground as a result. We expect Steve to fully leverage Rusty’s legacy as he captains UMCC into its next 70 years."

"Steve is very knowledgeable about the inner workings of UMCC, and he’s intimately familiar with the Midcoast,” said Brace. "He’s been UMCC’s First Vice President for about as long as I have been President. As a former president of Allen Insurance and Financial, it’s clear he can provide strong leadership for an organization. He built a first-class organization with a spectacular record in the private sector. I’m confident he'll make a great president for UMCC, which already sets a very high bar among non-profit organizations in Midcoast Maine."

Said Crane: "I am eager to continue Rusty Brace's wonderful and dedicated work and to work with UMCC's board of directors to strengthen the organization for the future."

Founded in 1942, UMCC collects funds for grants supporting more than 50 agencies serving children and families in Knox and Waldo counties. Since its inception, UMCC has donated every dollar it has collected, thanks to an endowment that covers administrative expenses.

Also elected to serve on UMCC’s executive committee were Carol B. Robbins, 1st Vice President; Jack Williams, 2nd Vice President; Carole L. Martin, Secretary; Eric Belléy, Treasurer; and Erika Taylor, Asst. Secretary/Asst. Treasurer.
