Let’s talk grease stains.  At Dulse & Rugosa we try real hard to package as eco as possible and it’s a challenge.  We stopped making some products simply because of packaging challenges.  It’s pointless to package eco yet use a ton of materials getting the product into the package.  So we end up with grease stains but the inside is still beautiful.  It’s not a problem at markets or online because we can explain and o

    Starry-eyed is April morn,
Rain bells glitter on the thorn.
Birds are tuning down the lane
    Patter song of fallen rain.
Spring can grieve, but Spring can be
    Very life of minstrelsy!

I actually put garden on my “to-do” list yesterday otherwise....  Two of my garden essentials are gloves and our Eau de Tick Spray.  It smells really good.  In fact, when I’m feeling hot and sweaty at a market I spritz it all over and feel instantly refreshed.  But obviously smelling good is not what this spray is all about.  We get asked all the time “Is it effective?”  Our spray does work but i

“We need the tonic of wildness...At the same time that we are earnest to explore and learn all things, we require that all things be mysterious and unexplorable, that land and sea be indefinitely wild, unsurveyed and unfathomed by us because unfathomable. We can never have enough of nature.”

Is it time to “clarify”?  A few shampoo bars ago I looked in the mirror and thought “WOW”.  Then the next time “Ohhhh, my hair feel funny”.  It was time to clarify.  When you use conventional hair products you tend to switch around a lot and you are using different mixtures of ingredients.  When you find a shampoo bar that your hair LOVES you are loyal.  Every once in awhile you need to mix it up.  I did a simple vinegar rinse and my hair was “right as rain”.

Did you know it takes a plastic bottle about 450 years to decompose?  I actually don’t know what that means- plastic and decompose.  I get the concept with a banana peel, coffee grinds or a paper bag.  But plastic is complicated.

So my question is are you still you liquid soaps and shampoos?  Make the switch to handcrafted bars of soaps and shampoo bars.  There are lots of great local soap makers in the area and we’d love for you to give our Maine seaweed shampoo bars are try.

If you follow my posts, you know that I make miniature fairy dresses out of natural materials I find in the woods. And each one has an Irish back story, which is perfect for this month, as we celebrate St. Patrick’s Day, based on the patron saint of Ireland.

Here are three handmade one-of-a-kind green dresses and their Irish backgrounds, which are $35 each on our Etsy store.

Is St. Patrick’s Day the “Holy Day” for you or an Irish friend? I made this wee fairy dress in the midst of a nor'easter. While it was a whiteout outside for nearly 18 hours, piling up over a foot, I wanted to bring the beauty of Ireland's lush green landscape into this dress with dark green reindeer moss over a birch bodice.

The back of the bodice is stitched up by bright green thread. This miniature fairy dress measures 1.5" by 4 " and comes with its own wee custom hanger.
